It is located about twenty kilometers from Kanchanaburi town, Wat Tham Phu Wa temple is famous for its cave. In front of the cave entrance, there is a big building with an architecture influenced by the Khmer arts and the Lopburi style, welcomes you. Recently, it is not the most interesting element but it allows to locate the main entrance. The cave has 2 floors, the one where you enter, then on the lower floor, there are several rooms with stalagmites and stalactites and several Buddha images. You will also find statues for each Chinese astrological sign in front which the faithful pray according to their year of birth. Wat Tham Pu Wa is also a renowned meditation center. Upon entering the complex you will come across a reclining Buddha and then at the left of the Khmer style building, a large sitting Buddha. All are paint in brick pink color.
No admission fees. There is no public transportation to come to Wat Tham Pu Wa. It will be necessary to have your own transportation: hire a songthaew (You will find oranges ones at the Kanchanaburi bus terminal.), rent a motorbike or car. You also can visit Wat MetathamPhotiyan because it is in the same area. It is a Chinese Style Temple where there are of Thais come for wishes and luck. You will admire carved wooden statues there.
RULES TO RESPECT WHEN VISITING A TEMPLE Wat Tham Pu Wa is a temple and when you visit a temple in Thailand there are some rules to know and follow as below this.
1. Dress properly. (knees and shoulders should be covered)
2. Take off your shoes before entering the temple.
3. Should be quiet when you are in the temple.
4. No hug or kiss.
5. Ladies are not allowed to touch monks.
6. Do not point your feet to Buddha’s image.
7. No Smoking in the temple.
